Floral Studies

I just wrapped up a small series of floral studies, and what they have taught me (among many things — you learn a little more with each painting) is an unwavering love of mixed media. Like my recent seashell release, these little beauties are crafted with fine acrylics, French oil pastel, graphite and a gloss varnish. But these are on cradled birch wood panel. I love the interplay between each of these mediums; finding ways for them to complement each other, appreciating the textural contrast, and allowing for layering with a certain sensibility.
